Taxes and Finance

The Dutch system is largely digitalised and made to be user friendly. If you are employed your monthly taxes are deducted from your salary. If you are self-employed, entrepreneur, or a freelancer, you have to do this yourself. These are different kinds of taxes you need to pay. From national to local taxes. There are also several tax credits and benefits available. It helps to read more information about the system before completing your yearly tax return. Many people also choose to hire a tax consultant.

When you first arrive in the Netherlands you need to fill in a special tax return for the months that you live and work in the Netherlands. This is called the M-form. You receive this form in the mail and must fill it by hand. There is an extended deadline for the M-form. After you have completed the M-form once, you can digitally fill in all upcoming tax returns.
