VOG certificate (code of conduct)
When you start a new job in the Netherlands, you may be asked to submit a VOG certificate. This is a ‘Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag’ (VOG). A VOG is a certificate of good conduct signed by the Dutch State Secretary for Justice and Security. The document officially notes that you have not committed any criminal offenses that are relevant to your job duties.
You can apply for a VOG certificate online, or in-person at a desk at your local Municipality. It is also possible to directly apply for your VOG via the central government.
Are you registered in your Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP)?

If you do not know whether you are registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP), please check if you have a Burgerservicenummer (BSN). This is a personal number for everyone who is registered at the municipality.
Please note that in addition to the application form, you will need a valid ID (not a driving licence). The administrative expenses for a certificate of good conduct are between € 33.85 and €41.35.
The Ministry of Justice and Security will send the certificate to your home address. This can take between 2 and 4 weeks.
