Guide to waste collection
The waste collection systems in The Hague region may be different from what you are used to.
Essentially, there are 5 main methods of rubbish disposal:
- Underground containers
Underground containers are available in most neighbourhoods in The Hague and the municipality is planning to add more. These containers are accessible at all times. Please make sure that your rubbish bags are properly sealed and avoid using the containers late at night when the noise may disturb your neighbours.
- Wheelie bins
Wheelie bins are another possible waste collection method employed by your municipality. These are emptied once a week. Please refer to the recycling and waste calendar of your municipality to learn about on which day this happens for you. Depending on your municipality, you can either put your bin out on the street in the morning before waste collection, or even late in the evening the night before.
- Street disposal
Are there no under- or above ground containers available near your house? Your rubbish bags will be collected on a particular day of the week. Consult the recycling and waste calendar of your municipality to learn about the day your household waste will be picked up and the times you can place it outside. Make sure that your rubbish bags are tightly sealed and only dispose of your waste on the curb or in the designated areas.
