New schools in The Hague region
Because of its growing international population, The Hague region has seen several new international schools added recently. New schools start out with a limited number of students, often just the first year/first level of education. Schools grow from there, adding more classes each year.
Primary education
In September 2018, The International Waldorf School first opened its doors. It is the first international school in the Netherlands based on the principles of Waldorf education, focused on the cultivation of a pupil's imagination and creativity. The school integrates Waldorf and International Primary Curriculum curriculums, allowing children to move in the international school system worldwide. For the school year 2019-2020, the school has added a class and now has Kindergarten, Class One and a combined Class Two and Three, accepting children between 4 and 9 years of age. Visit the website of The International Waldorf School for more information.
Secondary education
- The British School in the Netherlands has expanded its Leidschenveen campus by opening Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL) in 2018. The school offers education based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales, partly adapting it to the needs of the international student body. In 2019, the school offers Year 7 and Year 8 to students between 11 and 12 years. Find out more on SSL here.
- International School Delft, which teaches according to the International Baccalaureate (IB) system, now also offers secondary education. This new school will temporarily be housed in an existing building near the Dutch Stanislascollege, and plans for a new building close to the primary education building are under way. The school will start by offering the first two years of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and will grow from there. Read more here.
- Rijnlands Lyceum in Wassenaar has started International School Wassenaar. The International School Wassenaar will deliver the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP).
