The Hague to build thousands of residences around the train stations

Published

The areas around the three greater train stations in The Hague are getting a drastic metamorphose the coming years. Between 7,700 and 11,500 residences will be built around Den Haag Central Station, Holland Spoor and Laan van NOI. A great deal of these residences will be high-rise buildings, like the Strijkijzer at Rijswijkseplein.

Growing population

The city has grown from 460,000 inhabitants at the start of this century until 535,000 now. All predictions suggest that the population will only increase by 4000 to 5000 people in the coming 25 years. This increase calls for more housing, jobs, attractive living areas and room for new schools, stores and playgrounds.

Amount of residences per area

Most of the residences will be built around Holland Spoor. There is room for 5,000 to 7,000 residences here. At the eastside of Central Station, 1,000 to 2,500 houses and around Laan van NOI 1,200 to 2,000 houses will be added to the area.
